How to Make Money on Social Media: Secret Tips Nobody Will Tell You

How to Make Money on Social Media: Secret Tips Nobody Will Tell You

Jenny Ho
January 31, 2025

I made my first €100 on social media completely by accident. I was just sharing my passion for learning English on YouTube, and after a couple of months, I earned more than €100 from YouTube ads—the first money I ever made online.

Earnings summary showing €153.63 earned.

Plus, a brand reached out, asking if they could pay me to feature their English learning app in my video. They paid me outside the platform—an extra $500 for just one video.

That’s when it hit me—damn. I can actually make money, and all those tips and hacks people share online about making money? They’re not lies. I did it.

Social media isn’t just for dumb scrolling. It’s a goldmine of opportunities if you know where to look.

According to Exploding Topics, the creator economy is projected to grow from $127.65 billion in 2023 to $528.39 billion by 2030, indicating a significant increase in opportunities for content creators to monetize their work.

And today, I’m going to show you everything about earning money online, the pitfalls to avoid, and how to prepare your mindset before jumping into this game.

Why Social Media is a Lucrative Opportunity?

Think about this: Americans spend an average of 2 hours and 27 minutes on social media every single day. That's not just mindless scrolling – it's billions of dollars in attention and purchasing power.

By 2025, the global social media advertising market is expected to reach $406.50 billion. And a growing slice of that pie is going to individual creators like you and me.

The beauty of social media monetization is that it's not a one-size-fits-all game – there are countless ways to turn your digital presence into a steady income stream.

Statistics showing TikTok influencer earnings.

The latest industry data shows that TikTok influencers earn an average salary of $131,874.

Not just that—social media can help you build passive income, multiple income streams, and even your own business, so you never have to work so hard for a limited income again.

You just need to create content once, and it keeps earning for you over time, even after the content is made. It’s completely different from a 9-to-5 job, where you only earn money right after you finish the work.

If you want to earn more, you have to keep pushing and working non-stop.

The moment you stop working, your income stops too. But on social media, it’s a whole different game. When you build a strong foundation, you can keep earning for a long time after you produce the work.

Curious about how influencers make their money? Keep reading as we break down the ways social media creators monetize their content—not just on TikTok, but across other platforms too.

Key Platforms for Social Media Monetization

There are millions of social media platforms out there, but here are six of the biggest ones that can make you the most money. These platforms are more stable and likely to last for decades, unlike others that have faded away over time.

YouTube

In 2024, video consumption trends accounted for roughly 82% of all consumer internet traffic, a figure 15 times higher than in 2017.

Among American users, YouTube outperformed all other social networks, including Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, making it the top platform for video content consumption in the U.S.

A graph showing social media platforms' popularity.

If you want to make significant money on social media, YouTube should be your first and most important platform to try.

What Makes YouTube Different?

YouTube stands apart from other social platforms in one crucial way: longevity.

Unlike the 24-hour lifecycle of a TikTok video or an Instagram post, YouTube content can generate revenue for years.

I have tutorials from 2021 that still bring in steady views and reliable income.

Ali Adaal, a YouTuber with 6.17M subscribers, does the same but on a much bigger scale. He makes videos about passive income and productivity.

They always get millions of views. This kind of content never gets obsolete, so he keeps making more.

Anytime someone searches for 'how to make passive income,' his videos show up at the top and earn him thousands of dollars—sometimes just from one video!

Ali Abdaal's YouTube videos.

This evergreen potential is what makes YouTube such a powerful platform for sustainable income.

When you post a video on YouTube, you're not just creating content – you're building a digital asset.

Every video becomes part of your content library, working for you 24/7, reaching viewers across different time zones, and generating revenue while you sleep.

I've seen this firsthand with my how-to guides that continue to attract viewers and generate income long after their initial publication.

While many creators focus solely on AdSense earnings, the real power lies in combining multiple income streams.

What Nobody Tells You

Creating good YouTube videos is hard work, like having a second full-time job. Each video takes 2–3 hours of research, 1–2 hours of recording, 3–4 hours of editing, and 1–2 hours to optimize.

The YouTube algorithm is also a big challenge since it keeps changing and can reduce views and income suddenly.

Copyright issues are another problem. Even content you think is safe, like royalty-free music, can get flagged. I learned this when a copyright strike restricted my channel for a week.

But the hardest part of being a creator is burnout, losing focus, and feeling stressed about making videos just for money.

A lot of creators feel pressure to keep making high-quality content, get more views, and earn enough money. This pressure often leads to burnout.

As mentioned in this video, one creator says, 'Once you achieve that—once you quit your job or school and focus solely on making money through YouTube—you’re fueled by fear.

Every day goes from, "I hope this video blows up so people notice me," to, "Oh no, if this video flops, I might not be able to eat.”

Why is every YouTuber quitting?

Many creators start out strong, posting three videos a week, but they burn out after a few months.

Why? Because the algorithm keeps changing, creators feel like they have to work harder and longer just to keep up. They grind non-stop, trading a 40-hour 9-to-5 job for 100-hour weeks trying to grow their YouTube channel—without even knowing if they'll make as much as they did at their old job.

Since 2023, you’ve probably noticed more and more big YouTubers leaving the platform.

  • SethEverman, owning 4.15 million subscribers, completely quit making videos
  • Tom Scott, having 6.51 million subscribers, quit his main channel to focus on his podcast.
  • Joel Haver, with 2.04  million subscribers, quit weekly shorts to make monthly movies
Joe Haver's YouTube channel.

If you dream of becoming a content creator, you’ve probably heard of Vanessa Lau. She grew her channel to 600k subscribers in just one year.

She taught people how to grow on Instagram and earn seven figures. Many saw her as an icon and even quit their jobs to follow her advice.

But she cried a lot while making videos. The stress gave her thyroid problems. She felt tired of creating content and pretending to be an expert.

Vanessa Lau's YouTube videos.

Finally, Vanessa Lau quit her YouTube channel for one year to take a break and travel with her family. She wanted to get away from the stress of YouTube.

Now she runs a small milk tea business outside of her YouTube channel.

The list goes on and on.

Starting a YouTube channel is tough, but keeping it going and making money without burning out is even harder. Even big creators with millions of views sometimes quit.

What helped me was making a simple plan: two quality videos per week. I used a batch system, spending two days filming, two days editing, and one day optimizing.

It kept me consistent, but editing was still a big challenge.

Editing takes a lot of time. After editing hundreds of videos, I’ve learned it can take four hours to make just one minute of finished content.

Doing that all the time isn’t realistic. That’s why I started using Zebracat, an AI tool that helps me save time and keep up without burning out.

You just need to enter your content idea, and in minutes, it creates a full video from scratch. No need to write scripts, record voiceovers, or record anything.

This AI tool saves you all the time spent creating videos, so you can focus on closing brand deals and watching the numbers grow in your bank account.

Zebracat's homepage.

Do you know the biggest mistake that hurts a content creator’s income and pushes them to burnout? It’s trying to do everything on their own.

Why don’t they hire help? Because hiring people is expensive. And even if you hire someone, there’s no guarantee they’ll finish the work the way you want.

You might even end up spending more time teaching them how to do it. That’s where Zebracat comes in.

This app is trained on millions of viral videos, and no freelancer can compete with that. The moment you start using Zebracat is the moment your videos start going viral and your channel starts growing.

With just a few clicks, you can create hundreds of viral videos which can help you build a strong audience and earn money. videos,

Zebracat offers four ways to create videos: by prompt, script, blog post, or audio.

Zebracat's video prompt input interface.

You can even use pre-made prompts, so you don’t have to reinvent the wheel. This saves you time from testing and failing to find the right viral formula.

Just use prompts that have already proven successful on other channels.

Zebracat's video prompt input interface.

Unlike other AI tools where you have to manually create characters using prompts to maintain consistency, Zebracat makes it simple. All you need to do is click a button.

Zebracat's video editing interface.

Think about it: with platforms like MidJourney, DALL-E, or Leonardo, you might spend 30 minutes creating a video you like and another 30 minutes fixing it or redoing parts. But with Zebracat, it takes just one second.

I used to use MidJourney and Llama AI to create pictures, and I know how time-consuming it can be. If you rely on that strategy, it’s hard to survive long-term on YouTube.

It’s time to think about working faster and smarter while staying profitable.

If you don’t want to be one of the YouTubers who quit, you need to treat YouTube like building a business, not just another time-consuming job. That’s the smart business move.

It’s even mentioned in this video, which got over 621k views in just a year from a channel with 476k subscribers.

With Zebracat, you can create content for any platform by choosing the right ratio directly in the app. You don’t need to worry about buying cameras, gear, or learning how to film and edit for each platform.

Later, you can easily change the ratio in the editor to get a beautiful video without losing quality, unlike videos you create manually.

Zebracat optimizes your content for each platform, including hooks, scripts, and editing style to capture audience attention on different platforms.

Zebracat's video editing interface.

You can save time and increase your chances of going viral by using human-sounding AI voices. This eliminates the need for multiple takes since you’ll have a perfect voice, like a professional voice artist, from the start.

If you think your videos get fewer views because of poor audio quality, it’s time to try this method. It’s much more affordable, customizable, and accessible than hiring a freelancer to do it for you.

Zebracat's video prompt input interface.

You can also make your videos more engaging by adding captions, like Alex Hormozi does. But instead of manually editing them—yes, even with CapCut, which isn’t always 100% precise—Zebracat does it perfectly.

It’s so accurate you won’t need to touch or edit a thing.

Zebracat's text effect interface.

It’s so good that you’ll get addicted to feeding more ideas into Zebracat to pump out tons of content and take over the internet! Plus, you don’t have to spend forever choosing the right background music for your videos.

Zebracat does it for you! Based on your ideas, settings, and millions of other viral videos on similar topics, Zebracat picks the perfect background music to improve your videos and evoke emotions from your audience. It even encourages them to like, share, and comment.

Personally, I hate searching for background music—it’s so boring. That’s why I highly recommend using Zebracat to skip this tedious step when creating videos for your YouTube channel.

With Zebracat, you don’t have to worry about copyright issues either. Everything is copyright-free, so you can monetize your videos without any problems.

Zebracat's video prompt input interface.

With Zebracat, I’ve already overcome the burnout of growing on YouTube.

You can also use videos created by Zebracat as video blogs on your website to drive massive traffic from Google. As the world’s most popular search engine, Google captures nearly 92% of the search market.

Why not use Zebracat to grow your personal or brand presence online even more? If you want to grow quickly and keep up on major platforms like YouTube and Google without burning out, try Zebracat now—I’m sure you’ll love it!

Remember, the best time to become a YouTuber was yesterday, but the second-best time is today. Just make sure you start with your eyes wide open to both the possibilities and the challenges ahead.

How to Earn Money on YouTube?

Here are 7 key ways to earn money on YouTube, both through direct platform features and by leveraging your YouTube presence.

  1. Ad Revenue Through YouTube Partner Program

The foundation of YouTube earnings comes from advertising revenue through the YouTube Partner Program (YPP)

To qualify, you need 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours in the past 12 months. Once qualified, YouTube places ads before, during, and after your videos.

Infographic on YouTube Partner Program eligibility.

Your earnings depend on factors like video length, viewer engagement, and advertising rates in your content category. Longer videos (over 8 minutes) can include mid-roll ads, potentially increasing revenue.

  1. Brand Sponsorships and Partnerships

As your channel grows, brands may approach you for sponsorships, or you can actively seek partnerships. These typically involve creating dedicated videos about products or including sponsor mentions within your regular content.

Sponsorship rates vary widely based on your audience size and engagement, but they often provide higher earnings per video than ad revenue alone.

Building a consistent brand and maintaining high engagement rates makes your channel more attractive to potential sponsors.

  1. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing involves promoting products or services and earning a commission from resulting sales. This works particularly well for review channels, tutorial content, or any niche where product recommendations naturally fit.

You can include affiliate links in your video descriptions and mention them during relevant content.

Think Media Podcast's YouTube video description.

Success in Youtube affiliate marketing often comes from building trust with your audience and only promoting products that genuinely benefit them.

  1. Merchandise and Product Sales

Creating your own merchandise line can generate additional revenue.

YouTube offers built-in merchandise shelves for eligible creators, allowing viewers to purchase products directly through the platform.

Film Booth's YouTube merchandise.

This works best when you've built a strong brand identity and have an engaged audience.

Products might include clothing, accessories, digital products, or branded items related to your content theme.

  1. Channel Memberships

Once eligible, you can offer channel memberships where viewers pay a monthly fee for exclusive perks.

Kimono Mom's YouTube description.

These might include special badges, custom emojis, member-only live streams, or exclusive content.

Kimono Mom's YouTube channel membership interface.

This creates a steady monthly income stream while providing additional value to your most dedicated viewers.

  1. Super Chat and Super Thanks

During live streams, viewers can purchase Super Chat messages that stand out in the chat.

Similarly, Super Thanks allows viewers to show appreciation on regular videos.

Kimono Mom's YouTube comment section.

While these features might not generate substantial income initially, they can become significant as your audience grows.

  1. Digital Products and Courses

Your YouTube presence can help sell digital products like online courses, ebooks, or consulting services. These products often command higher prices than physical merchandise and can be automated for passive income.

The key is creating products that solve specific problems for your audience.

Can I Build a Profitable Faceless Channel?

Yes, you can absolutely grow a successful faceless YouTube channel! The key is creating high-value content that solves problems or meets specific needs for your audience, rather than relying on personal charisma.

Howtoai's YouTube channel.

Faceless channels can thrive using formats like:

  • Screen-recorded tutorials
  • Educational animations
  • Data visualizations
  • Stock footage with voiceovers
  • Slideshow presentations

Many successful faceless channels focus on niches like:

  • Tech reviews
  • Financial advice
  • Educational topics
  • Gaming walkthroughs.

In fact, not showing your face can be an advantage—it keeps viewers focused entirely on the information you’re sharing. To make up for the lack of personal connection, you’ll need to:

  • Develop a strong brand voice.
  • Maintain consistently high production quality.
  • Use engaging elements like professional voiceovers, dynamic editing, or compelling visuals.

What really matters is the value your content provides. Whether you’re teaching something, solving problems, or entertaining in a unique way, faceless channels can grow huge, loyal audiences.

Many top-earning YouTubers prove that with the right strategy and content, showing your face isn’t necessary for success.

You can also use AI to create videos and grow your YouTube channel massively without struggling to find ideas, write scripts, or edit videos. In the first 1–4 years, AI-powered channels often blow up quickly, reaching 1 million subscribers in just 3–4 months and earning around $5,000 per month.

The channel 'Wisdom in Folklores,' for example, has shown impressive growth. It reached 1.19 million subscribers on YouTube in less than a year—a dream for many talented YouTubers.

Wisdom in Folklores' YouTube channel.

According to Social Blade, it’s estimated to earn anywhere from $5K to $83K per month—all with just an AI tool, Zebracat.

If you’re serious about growing your YouTube channel, you need to check out Zebracat right now!

With extremely high video consumption trends, you need to take advantage of this opportunity. Zebracat helps you leverage this trend and turn views into money.

2. Instagram

When I first started on Instagram, I thought making money was all about follower count—wrong!

After three years on the platform, I’ve learned that monetization is more like running a business than just posting pretty pictures. Instagram doesn’t pay directly based on views or followers. Instead, you monetize through:

  • Instagram’s tools like Shopping, Subscriptions, and Ads.
  • Sponsored content by partnering with brands.

Unlike YouTube, Instagram income is mostly active—you earn only when you work. Creating visually engaging, highly edited content also requires strong photo and video editing skills.

If you find this difficult, try using Zebracat. It lets you create professional-looking videos with AI in minutes.

You can even use AI avatars to present your information, making your content more engaging.

Or, you can make your Instagram more appealing by using AI-generated pictures and stock footage.

Zebracat offers more than 78 AI video styles, so you can create unique content that stands out. This helps you cut through the noise and go viral more easily.

Maximizing Instagram Income: Strategies and Insights

To maximize earnings on Instagram, creators need to treat the platform as a business rather than just a social media account. Every content piece should either generate income or support your larger business goals.

1. Direct Platform Monetization (35% of Total Income)

It’s profitable to become a content creator on Instagram. Here are several ways to help you build multiple income streams on this platform:

Shopping Features

Build themed collections that address specific problems (e.g., "Winter Dryness Solutions"). Pair shoppable posts with educational content explaining product relevance.

For example, when promoting a serum, include tips on its benefits for winter conditions. Live shopping events boost sales by combining product demos, educational content, and real-time interaction

Katespadeny's instragram.

Subscription

Scale subscriptions by offering behind-the-scenes content, early access to posts, live Q&A sessions, and structured tutorials. For example, create a "Mastering Makeup Basics" series followed by advanced techniques to keep subscribers engaged.

Instagram's subscription service screen.
2. Brand Partnerships (40% of Total Income)

Focus on long-term collaborations with brands that align with your niche and values.

  • Start with short-term contracts (3 months) to prove your value.
  • Track metrics like engagement and conversions to negotiate longer deals (6+ months).
  • Offer varied formats (posts, stories, reels) to increase value.
  • Charge more for exclusivity, avoiding low-paying deals that limit future opportunities.
  • Content Licensing: Charge higher rates for global or multi-platform content usage (up to 5x your base rate).
3. Affiliate Marketing (15% of Total Income)

Affiliate success comes from systematic, problem-solving content.

  • Create series that address specific needs (e.g., "Winter Skin Series").
  • Build resource libraries as ongoing references.
  • Focus on evergreen content that generates long-term income.
Example: Strategic planning grew earnings from $150 to $3,500 per month.

Example of Growth:

Strategic planning took monthly affiliate earnings from $150 to $3,500.

4. Personal Products (10% of Total Income)

Personal products offer high control and scalability.

  • Start with low-priced digital items like guides ($17–$47).
  • Add tutorials ($97), templates ($147), and bundles ($297).
  • Online Courses: Start with beta launches ($197) and scale to full courses ($497), earning up to $25,000 per launch with 200 students.
  • Coaching Programs: Begin with $100/hour sessions, scaling to group programs at $997/month, earning $20,000 per cohort.

Key Strategies for Sustainable Success:

  1. Diversify Income Streams: Balance revenue across brand partnerships, affiliate marketing, personal products, and courses.
  2. Build Systems and Scalable Solutions: Automate repetitive tasks and focus on long-term growth.
  3. Create Value-Driven Content: Solve specific audience problems with your content.
  4. Document Results: Use data to negotiate better deals with brands.
  5. Develop Long-Term Relationships: Foster loyalty with both brands and your audience.
  6. Invest in Premium Offerings: Build higher-priced products and services to boost profit margins.
  7. Continuously Improve: Keep enhancing your content, products, and strategies.

Can I Create a Profitable Faceless Channel on Instagram?

Yes, you can build a profitable faceless Instagram account by focusing on valuable content that doesn’t require showing your identity.

Success comes from creating visually appealing posts that provide value to your audience—whether it’s educational infographics, inspirational quotes, data visualizations, product reviews, or niche-specific tips.

Here are some faceless Instagram account ideas:

  • Motivational quotes: Shares motivational quotes and self-improvement messages using vibrant colors and simple graphics.
Thepositiveminds' instagram.

This channel gained 2.4M followers with a super simple approach—no heavy editing, no colorful Instagram covers, just a plain white design. But it works!

  • Artwork: Features beautiful artwork from various painters, showcasing art without revealing the creators behind them.

  • Successful tips: Shares mindset tips, productivity hacks, and motivational posts to help people improve their mental resilience.
Glitch.mindset's instagram.
  • Travel: Showcases breathtaking travel destinations around the world through high-quality travel photos without personal images.
Travly's instagram.

You can create faceless videos for all of these niches within minutes and go viral just by using Zebracat.

Zebracat's video editing interface.

No steep learning curve, no hefty costs, no time wasted—just sign up for free and start making viral faceless videos. Remember, making money on Instagram isn't about luck or going viral – it's about building a sustainable business.

Start with a clear niche, focus on engagement over followers, and build multiple revenue streams. Most importantly, stay authentic – your audience can smell promotion from a mile away.

3. TikTok

With the new Creativity Program, launched in 2023, content creators can earn $4-$8 per 1,000 views on TikTok. That same 500,000-view video today could earn $2,000-$4,000.

Just like YouTube and Instagram, you should have other ways to make money, like brand deals, affiliate marketing, or selling products. TikTok also offers unique options such as:

  • Creativity Program payments.
  • LIVE gifts (200 Diamonds = $1).
  • Bonuses and challenges.

Don’t rely only on TikTok payouts—combine them with other income streams for better earnings.

However, in 2025, the US government is planning to ban TikTok in the United States. Because of this, I wouldn’t recommend focusing on TikTok right now if your goal is to attract a US-based audience.

As of now, this news hasn’t been made official, but it seems the US government isn’t in favor of TikTok. Personally, I’d recommend focusing on other platforms outside of TikTok.

Can I grow a successful faceless channel on TikTok?

Yes, you can absolutely create viral and successful faceless TikTok videos with the right strategy and understanding of how the platform works.

TikTok’s algorithm prioritizes engaging content over appearances, making it perfect for faceless videos that provide value or entertainment.

The key is to use TikTok’s format effectively and leverage TikTok trends.

Create engaging videos with screen recordings, product demos, voiceovers paired with visuals, or text-based storytelling with dynamic backgrounds.

Many successful faceless TikTok creators use trending sounds and music creatively while showing processes, sharing information, or teaching skills.

For example:

  • Cooking channels show only hands preparing food.
Kookmutsjes' TikTok.
  • Tech channels use screen captures with voiceovers.
Dr.itech's Tiktok.
  • Educational channels pair animated text with trending music.
Animated.psychology's TikTok.

These strategies work because TikTok users care more about the content’s value or entertainment than seeing the creator’s face.

To grow your faceless TikTok channel, focus on:

  • Posting consistently (1–3 times a day).
  • Using trending sounds, effects, and formats.
  • Maintaining high production quality.

Make sure your content teaches something valuable, solves a problem, or entertains in a unique way.

Since TikTok’s fast-paced nature demands attention quickly, hook your audience in the first few seconds and deliver your message concisely.

4. Facebook

While everyone's chasing TikTok fame and Instagram influence, I've discovered that Facebook, with its massive 3.07 billion active users, remains one of the most lucrative platforms for making money online.

I learned this the hard way after initially dismissing it as "that platform my parents use."

Now, it's become my most stable source of social media income.

1. Subscription Success Strategy

Remember when I first enabled paid subscriptions? My initial thought was, "Who would pay for Facebook content?" Well, I was in for a surprise.

My first month offering premium content brought in just $50 from a handful of subscribers.

Six months later, I was generating over $2,000 monthly from subscription content alone.

Facebook's subscription screen.

The key to subscription success lies in offering genuine value.

My premium content includes behind-the-scenes footage, early access to posts, exclusive live sessions, and direct Q&A opportunities.

But here's what most people don't tell you about the requirements:

  • Meet and remain compliant with Facebook's Partner Monetisation Policies
  • Review and agree to the Fan Subscription Creator Terms
  • For Facebook video creators: Be an admin of a Facebook Page that has 10,000 followers or 250+ return viewers and one of the following in the last 60 days: 50,000 post engagements or 180,000 watch minutes.
  • For Facebook Gaming creators: To use Subscriptions for your gaming streams, your Facebook Page must be part of the Level Up programme and have 250+ return viewers.
  • Be at least 18 years of age

Additionally, accounts that primarily post content focused on children are not eligible to offer subscriptions.

2. Brand Partnership Mastery

This is where Facebook's maturity really shines. Unlike newer platforms, brands on Facebook often have bigger budgets and longer-term collaboration interests.

My first brand deal was a modest $200 for a single post.

Now, I structure my partnerships into three tiers: entry-level collaborations starting at $500, standard packages ranging from $1,500 to $3,000, and premium custom campaigns that can exceed $5,000.

The secret isn't just in the numbers – it's in the storytelling. I focus on authentic integration, showing products in real-life situations, and providing measurable results for brands.

One of my most successful partnerships started with a small home organization brand and grew into a year-long collaboration worth over $30,000.

3. Stars System Optimization

If you’re onboarded to Stars monetization, Meta will pay you $0.01 for every Star you receive.

Facebook's "Stars Set Up" page.

Some of my most successful streams have been simple Q&A sessions where I spend time genuinely connecting with my audience.

However, you must meet Community Standards and comply with Facebook's Partner and Content Monetization Policies. You need at least 500 followers for 30 consecutive days and must live in a country eligible for Stars.

You must agree to the Stars Terms and Conditions and be at least 18 years old. Additionally, accounts that focus primarily on content for children are not eligible to earn from Stars.

5. Twitter/X

X (Twitter) is a dynamic social media platform where users share short-form content, engage in real-time conversations, and build communities around shared interests. Initially text-based, it now supports images, videos, and live audio sessions.

What makes X particularly valuable for monetization is its real-time nature and highly engaged user base.

Direct Monetization Methods on X

1. Ad Revenue Sharing

X’s Creator Revenue Sharing program offers creators a chance to earn from ads shown in replies to their tweets.

Twitter/X's Monetization interface.

To qualify, you must:

  • Be an X Premium subscriber.
  • Have at least 500 followers.
  • Generate 5 million tweet impressions over three months.

This encourages creators to produce engaging content that sparks meaningful discussions.

2. Ticketed Spaces

Creators can host paid live audio events, pricing tickets between $1 and $999.

Twitter/X's ticketed spaces.

Requirements include:

  • 1,000+ followers.
  • A verified email address.
  • Hosting three Spaces in the past 30 days.

Creators keep 97% of ticket sales revenue (minus payment fees), as X charges only a 3% platform fee.

3. X Subscriptions

Offer exclusive content to paying subscribers, such as:

  • Behind-the-scenes updates.
  • Early access to announcements.
  • Private Q&A sessions.
  • Exclusive insights or analysis.
Alamin's Twitter/X profile.

However, to qualify for these monetization opportunities, you must meet several requirements: be 18 or older, have a complete and verified profile, enable two-factor authentication, follow X’s rules, and avoid fake identities.

You also need to subscribe to X Premium or Verified Organizations, have an active account for 3+ months, post content in the last 30 days, maintain 2,000 active followers, achieve 5,000,000 organic impressions in 3 months, and complete identity verification.

Indirect Monetization Strategies on X

Outside of earning directly from the platform, you can diversify your income in many ways, similar to strategies used on platforms like YouTube or Instagram. These include:

  • Sponsored content.
  • Affiliate marketing.
  • Brand deals.
  • Selling your own courses.

6. LinkedIn

LinkedIn stands out from other social media platforms because of its professional focus and business-oriented audience.

While it started as a networking and job-seeking platform, it has evolved into a powerful income-generating tool for creators, entrepreneurs, and professionals.

Emily D.'s LinkedIn profile.

Its high-intent user base actively seeks professional development and business opportunities, making it ideal for monetization.

Primary Income Generation Methods on LinkedIn

1. Sponsored Brand Partnerships

Brand partnerships on LinkedIn are some of the most lucrative, focusing on professional products, services, and business solutions. Unlike platforms dominated by lifestyle content, LinkedIn emphasizes value-driven collaborations.

  • Example: Jayde Powell earned over $40,000 from sponsored content with eight brands.
  • Earnings Potential: Sponsored posts can range from $500 to $5,000+ per collaboration.
2. Educational Content Creation

LinkedIn’s professional environment is perfect for monetizing educational content through:

  • Course Development: Professionals can create and sell courses based on their expertise. For instance, Jess Ramos, with 216,000 followers, launched Big SQL Energy, generating passive income and reaching a global audience.
Justin Welsh's LinkedIn profile.
  • Webinars and Live Events: Creators can earn revenue through ticket sales and attract long-term clients. For example, Powell’s "#CreatorTeaTalk" series draws sponsorships and creates additional revenue streams.
3. Professional Services
  • Coaching and Consulting: LinkedIn is ideal for offering professional one-on-one sessions. For example, Colin Rocker charges $100 per session and thrives by demonstrating clear expertise and measurable value.
Colin Rocker's LinkIn profile.
  • Business Development: Use LinkedIn to generate leads for consulting or other business services. Build authority through content creation and network engagement.
Lara Acosta's LinkedIn Profile.
4. Affiliate Marketing Opportunities

While less common than on other platforms, LinkedIn offers unique opportunities for affiliate marketing, focusing on business-oriented products and services. Success requires:

  • Building Trust: Share genuine experiences with relevant tools or resources.
  • Strategic Recommendations: Highlight products that solve specific business problems.
  • Authentic Integration: Weave recommendations naturally into professional insights.

The Key to LinkedIn Success

LinkedIn rewards professionalism, depth of expertise, and practical value over entertainment or viral content. Focus on:

  • Building genuine professional relationships.
  • Providing consistent, valuable insights.
  • Diversifying income streams strategically.

By maintaining professionalism and delivering value, you can create multiple revenue streams while enhancing your reputation and authority in your field.

Factors Influencing Earnings on Social Media

Last year, I watched a creator with just 10,000 followers earn more in a month than another creator with 100,000 followers earned in a quarter.

This experience completely changed my understanding of what drives success on social media.

Understanding Engagement: Beyond the Basic Numbers

A creator with 8,000 followers can earn more than one with 50,000 if their audience truly engages with their content. True engagement means followers saving, sharing, and discussing your posts, not just liking them.

Brands value communities that trust and act on your recommendations, as this drives real results like sales, not just numbers. Quality engagement always beats quantity.

The Niche Factor: Finding Your Sweet Spot

Choosing the right niche is critical for success. It’s not just about your interests but about finding the overlap between your expertise, market demand, and monetization potential.

For example, a creator I mentored shifted from the oversaturated fitness niche to fitness for busy professionals over 40, increasing her earnings from $200 to $1,500 per post.

Specialized niches like finance, tech, and luxury lifestyle command higher rates due to their audience's purchasing power, often earning 3–5 times more than general lifestyle content.

A well-chosen niche can make all the difference.

Content Quality: The Non-Negotiable Factor

Content quality today is more about storytelling and authenticity than just high production value. I learned this when a highly produced video flopped, but a raw behind-the-scenes clip shot on my phone went viral, leading to brand deals.

Platforms like Instagram prioritize content that stops the scroll—authenticity often outperforms professional polish.

On YouTube, long-form content succeeds when creators keep viewers engaged with strong storytelling, not just flashy visuals. Production value matters, but only if it serves the story.

Focus on connecting with your audience through real, engaging, and relatable content.

Leverage tools to create competitive advantage

Creating video content for social media takes a lot of time. If you don’t have a big team or the money to hire help, it’s essential to use tools.

I’ve never heard of a successful content creator earning big money without using any tools. For example, Ali Abdaal, a YouTuber with over 6 million subscribers, recommends and uses multiple tools to save time and produce high-quality videos.

Ali Abdaal's YouTube videos.

With the rise of AI tools for social media, you can now do almost everything yourself.

From creating viral video content in just one click with Zebracat AI, to publishing on multiple platforms at once with Buffer or Later, to generating content with tools like ChatGPT or creating images with DALL-E—the possibilities are endless.

The key is knowing what tools to use, when to use them, and how to combine them to build your own virtual AI team.

How to Start Making Money on Social Media?

A strategic approach to monetization that combined multiple revenue streams.

Define Your Objectives Very Carefully

Your goals as a creator shape your business strategy. Choose between:

  1. Side Income: Low-risk, 5–10 hours/week, passive income focus.
  2. Full-Time Income: Replace your job with 20–40 hours/week, advanced skills, and multiple revenue streams.
  3. Brand Building: Build a lasting business asset, focusing on systems, scalability, and long-term growth.

Set measurable income goals, assess your skills and time availability, and create adaptive strategies with multiple income streams. Embrace continuous learning and flexibility to build a sustainable, fulfilling business aligned with your passions and aspirations.

Select Your Niche

Choosing the right niche is about finding the sweet spot where your passion, skills, market demand, and monetization potential align. Your ideal niche exists at the intersection of:

  • Passion: What excites and motivates you.
  • Expertise: Your skills and knowledge.
  • Market Demand: Areas where people actively seek solutions.
  • Monetization Potential: Opportunities to generate revenue.

Start by asking yourself what topics you love, problems you enjoy solving, and skills that come naturally. Then, evaluate potential niches based on market size, monetization channels, and competition—targeting moderately competitive or emerging niches for growth opportunities.

Step-by-Step Niche Selection Guide

  1. Brainstorming: List 10-15 niches, assess personal connection, and evaluate market potential.
  2. Research: Analyze existing content, study successful creators, and find content gaps.
  3. Validation: Create sample content, test audience response, gather feedback, and track engagement.
  4. Refinement: Narrow your focus, develop a unique angle, and build expertise.

Avoid These Mistakes:

  • Choosing only for earnings.
  • Ignoring personal interest.
  • Failing to address audience needs.
  • Overlooking growth potential.

Consider Hybrid Niches: Combine interests for unique positioning, like tech + sustainability or fitness + mental health.

Success requires continuous learning, adaptability, and genuine passion. Your niche should merge your strengths with audience needs—turn it into a movement, not just a choice.

Choose Your Platform

The right platform can significantly impact your monetization success. For example, Lisa struggled on Instagram because her technical content wasn’t aligned with the platform’s strengths.

After switching to YouTube and LinkedIn, where detailed explanations thrive, her engagement and earnings improved.

Platform Analysis Framework

  1. Audience Alignment:
    • Instagram: Visual products, lifestyle content.
    • TikTok: Quick tutorials, trends.
    • LinkedIn: B2B, professional services.
    • YouTube: Long-form how-tos and tutorials.
  2. Content Format Strengths:
    • Instagram: High-quality visuals, story sequences.
    • TikTok: Short, engaging videos (30–60 seconds).
    • YouTube: In-depth content (8+ minutes).
    • LinkedIn: Professional insights, industry analysis.
  3. Monetization Options:
    • Instagram: Brand deals, affiliate marketing, shopping features.
    • TikTok: Creator Fund, brand collaborations, live gifts.
    • YouTube: Ad revenue, sponsorships, channel memberships.
    • LinkedIn: Course sales, consulting leads, speaking opportunities.

Choosing the platform that best aligns with your content style, audience, and monetization goals is key to long-term success.

Build a Content Plan

Content planning goes beyond deciding what to post—it’s about creating a strategic path to monetization. For example, Rachel, a skincare expert, developed a balanced strategy with four content pillars:

  • Educational Content (40%): Tutorials, ingredient insights, and routine guides.
  • Entertainment/Lifestyle (30%): Morning/night routines, transformation stories, and behind-the-scenes looks.
  • Community Building (20%): Q&A sessions, follower challenges, and live troubleshooting.
  • Promotional Content (10%): Product reviews, affiliate recommendations, and special offers.

Her content calendar included educational deep dives on Mondays, lifestyle posts midweek, community engagement on Fridays, and story/live sessions on weekends.

Each piece was tailored for platforms: Instagram (carousel posts and reels), TikTok (trends and quick tips), and YouTube (detailed routines and reviews). This structured approach ensured consistency, engagement, and monetization.

Create High-Quality Content

Creating high-quality content is the key to going viral on social media and earning money. However, as I mentioned earlier, producing high-quality content as a new or solo creator is incredibly hard.

It could take you 10 years just to see small successes. That’s why you should leverage tools to grow your social media faster.

One tool I use is Zebracat, an AI video maker designed specifically for content creators, digital entrepreneurs, and professionals. Unlike generic AI tools, Zebracat is built to understand the unique needs of digital video content creation.

Build and Engage Your Audience

Audience building isn't just about collecting followers—it's about creating a vibrant, engaged community that sees you as a trusted resource, mentor, and valuable connection.

Levels of Audience Engagement

  1. Awareness Level: Initial Discovery
    • First contact with your content
    • Casual, passive interaction
    • Low commitment
  2. Connection Level: Building Trust
    • Regular content consumption
    • Increased interaction
    • Growing curiosity about your expertise
  3. Community Level: Active Participation
    • Consistent engagement
    • Emotional investment
    • Two-way communication
  4. Advocacy Level: Brand Ambassadorship
    • Proactively sharing your content
    • Defending your brand
    • Recommending you to others

Strategic Audience Engagement Frameworks

To effectively engage your audience, focus on three key pillars:

  1. Content Value Proposition: Deliver value through education (solving problems), entertainment (emotional connection), inspiration (motivation), or practicality (actionable insights).
  2. Interaction Strategies: Foster engagement by responding to comments meaningfully, creating interactive content like polls or Q&As, hosting live sessions, and offering personalized feedback.
  3. Authentic Communication: Build trust by sharing personal stories, being transparent about struggles, showing vulnerability, and maintaining a consistent, genuine communication style.

Consistency, transparency, and genuine connections form the foundation for long-term audience trust and loyalty.

Audience building is an art of genuine human connection.

Embrace authenticity, provide value, and watch your community grow organically.

Monetize Your Efforts

To effectively monetize your efforts, focus on diversifying income streams rather than relying on one method. Start small as a micro-influencer by leveraging engagement to secure product-for-post deals and gradually move to paid collaborations.

Build brand partnerships with a professional media kit and clear terms, while also creating digital products like guides, templates, and courses.

Incorporate affiliate marketing by promoting products you use, and explore physical merchandise with print-on-demand services. For higher-ticket opportunities, consider structured coaching or mentorship programs, scaling from one-on-one sessions to group offerings.

Tips to Avoid Failure

Creating social media video content and making money from it requires a lot of effort, time, and even investment. Here are some important tips to help you avoid failure.

Consistency Over Perfection

An analysis of 332,490 social media accounts showed that posting frequency plays a major role in driving engagement and growth across different platforms. However - and this is crucial - there's a quality threshold that must be met.

The sweet spot? What I call the "80/20 Quality Rule":

  • Aim for 80% of professional quality
  • Post consistently (4-7 times weekly)
  • Focus on value over perfection
  • Maintain basic technical standards

But there's another side to this argument. Some niches, particularly luxury and high-end products, require higher production values. Mark, a luxury watch reviewer, found his engagement dropped when he tried to increase posting frequency at the expense of quality. The solution? A hybrid approach:

  • High-production flagship content weekly
  • Quick, authentic behind-the-scenes content daily
  • Mix of polished and raw stories
  • Balanced content calendar

Avoid Overdependence on One Platform

Relying too much on a single platform can be risky, but spreading yourself too thin across multiple platforms can lead to burnout and reduced performance.

Data shows creators focusing on 1-2 platforms earn more ($3,500–$4,200 monthly) than those managing 3-5 platforms ($2,100 monthly).

The "Hub and Spoke Model" offers a balanced solution: dedicate 70% of your effort to a primary "hub" platform for audience building and monetization, while using 30% of your effort on secondary "spoke" platforms for content repurposing and audience expansion.

This model reduces content creation time by 60%, improves engagement by 75%, and stabilizes income by 150%.

Prioritize Audience Trust

Balancing monetization and audience trust is crucial for creators, as transparency leads to higher engagement, better conversion rates, and long-term earnings.

Studies show that audiences expect creators to monetize, with 78% preferring honest sponsorships and 91% valuing transparency.

The "Value-First Monetization Framework" suggests starting with 90% value-driven content and 10% monetization, gradually increasing to 70% value and 30% monetization over time.

This approach builds trust, fosters engagement, and ensures sustainable growth while monetizing responsibly.

Invest in Learning

The debate between formal education and practical experience for creators is nuanced, with data showing that creators who invest in education grow faster and earn more.

Those dedicating 20%+ of revenue to learning see 2.5x faster growth, with one-on-one mentoring (80% success rate) and niche-specific training (65% success rate) outperforming generic courses.

Successful creators follow a strategic learning framework: daily micro-learning (competitor and platform updates), weekly deep dives (analytics and strategy), monthly skill building (courses and experiments), and quarterly planning (goal setting and strategy reviews).

Combining education with practical application leads to the best outcomes.

Time Management

Effective time management is crucial for social media success, with successful creators allocating their time strategically: 40% to content creation, 25% to engagement, 15% to learning, and 20% to business development.

In contrast, struggling creators over-prioritize content creation (70%), neglecting other key areas.

Interestingly, creators working 30–40 focused hours weekly outperform those working 60+ hours, earning $5,400/month on average (vs. $3,200), with higher growth rates (25% vs. 15%) and lower burnout (20% vs. 65%).

Strategic time allocation and focus lead to better results and sustainability.

Advanced Monetization Tips and Secrets

Building a successful empire requires advanced strategies like personal branding and content repurposing. Personal branding is your digital DNA—the essence that sets you apart.

A strong personal brand relies on authenticity, consistent messaging, and a connection with your audience, built on core values, expertise, and transparent storytelling.

Content repurposing is another powerful strategy, transforming one piece of content into multiple formats across platforms.

For example, a YouTube video can become TikTok highlights, Instagram Reels, LinkedIn insights, blog posts, or podcast extracts. Tailoring content to each platform amplifies reach and engagement, turning one idea into a multiplatform presence.

Success is about combining authenticity with strategic creativity, shaping your journey based on your unique vision and strengths.

Conclusion

Making money on social media isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme—it’s a real business opportunity that takes dedication, strategy, and persistence.

Gary Vee, a social media icon with 44 million followers and 300 million monthly impressions, says, “Don’t worry; skills are cheap, passion is priceless. If you’re passionate about your content and you know it and do it better than anyone else, even with few formal business skills you have the potential to create a million-dollar business.”

Gary Vee's quote.

You should just start with one platform, master it, and then expand strategically.

Focus on providing value first, but keep a monetization mindset to guide you in the right direction with less time, effort, and resources.

Don’t force it, though. If your content is good, solves a problem, and brings value to your audience, monetization will come naturally.

If you haven’t monetized yet, it means there’s still something to fix in your content—and once you do, the money will follow. Remember, your journey might look different from others, and that’s totally fine.

The key is to start, stop overanalyzing, and stay persistent. The social media landscape is always evolving, and those who succeed are the ones who evolve with it.

FAQs on Making Money on Social Media

What are the most profitable social media platforms?

TikTok pays the most to content creators, with top ones making millions every year from brand deals, gifts, and programs like the Creator Fund. For example, creators earn around $0.02 to $0.04 per 1,000 views, and brand sponsorships can hit over $10,000 per campaign.

TikTok’s huge user base, smart algorithm, and features like live gifting make it super easy for creators to make money and connect with their audience.

How much money can you make on Instagram?

The factors we mentioned earlier affect how much money you can make on Instagram.

Influencer Tier Follower Count Average Earnings Per Post
Nano-influencer Less than 10k followers $10 to $100 per post
Micro-influencer 10k to 100k followers $100 to $500 per post
Macro Influencer 100k to 1 million followers $5,000 to $10,000 per post
Mega Influencer Over 1 million followers $10,000+ per post

What types of content generate the most revenue on YouTube?

Tutorial content, product reviews, and niche-specific educational content tend to generate the highest revenue through a combination of ad revenue and affiliate marketing.

Is it necessary to have a large following to make money?

No, micro-influencers (1,000-100,000 followers) often have higher engagement rates and can be more attractive to brands looking for authentic partnerships.

What is affiliate marketing on social media?

Affiliate marketing enables creators to earn commissions by promoting products through unique tracking links. It's most effective on platforms like YouTube and Instagram, where creators can naturally integrate product recommendations into their content.

Can you make money from TikTok videos?

TikTok provides multiple revenue streams including the Creator Fund, brand partnerships, live stream gifts, and opportunities to drive traffic to external monetized platforms. Success requires creating consistent, creative content that resonates with the platform's audience.

How long does it take to start earning money on social media?

Most creators begin seeing initial earnings within 3-6 months of consistent posting. Significant, sustainable income typically develops after 12-18 months of dedicated content creation and strategic audience building.

Can you make a living off social media?

Many creators make a living on social media by diversifying their income streams, like sponsorships, affiliate marketing, digital products, and platform-specific monetization programs. To do this successfully, you need to treat content creation as a real business.

How often should you post content to make money?

Posting frequency varies by platform:

- YouTube: 1-3 times per week

- Instagram: 4-7 times per week

- TikTok: 1-3 times per day

- Twitter: 3-5 times per day

Quality and consistency matter more than pure volume of content.

How to balance promotional and regular content?

To balance promotional and regular content effectively, follow the 80/20 rule: 80% of your content should provide genuine value, while only 20% focuses on promotions. Create a content calendar that prioritizes educational or entertaining material, and integrate sponsored content naturally and transparently.

Choose partnerships carefully, ensuring they align with your audience's interests and your content's overall value proposition, which helps maintain audience trust and engagement.

Can you make money from social media without showing your face?

Yes, you can absolutely make money from social media without showing your face! Many successful creators earn substantial income through niches like product reviews, educational content, animation, and gameplay videos.

By using voiceovers, screen recordings, and creative content strategies, you can build engaging channels that monetize through ads, sponsorships, affiliate marketing, and digital products. Platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram offer multiple revenue streams for anonymous creators who focus on providing valuable, entertaining, or informative content that resonates with their target audience.

What is the impact of social media algorithms on revenue?

The impact of social media algorithms on revenue is fundamentally about visibility and engagement - when algorithms reduce your content's reach, it directly affects your earning potential across all monetization channels.

For example, when Instagram's algorithm changes caused my reach to drop from 50,000 to 17,500 viewers, my revenue dropped proportionally from $500 to $175 per post since fewer people saw and engaged with my content.

This ripple effect impacts everything from brand deals to product sales, as lower visibility means fewer opportunities for audience growth and conversion, ultimately determining how much you can earn from your social media presence.
